Kitchen Hack: Canned Refried Beans
It is no surprise that I love Mexican food! I honestly could eat it for every meal. Although I love it, Mexican food can be hard to make at home. There is the restaurant version and the home version. The home version is still good, it just doesn’t taste super authentic unless you slave in the kitchen all day. During the week, I just do not have the time to slave away in the kitchen so I definitely use canned beans, rice out of a box, and tortillas bought at the end of the aisle.
There is one hack I have learned over the years to make your can of beans taste a little better. Add a little milk or sour cream, and some spices from your pantry. They still taste like beans from a can but a much better version. Simply add about ¼ cup of sour cream or milk, and some shakes of chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, and cayenne for some extra kick. To be honest, I have never measured it before but you do not want to add too much. I would say it is a about a ¼ tsp of each and a shake or two of the cayenne. Make sure to stir everything well and heat up like you normally would. Like I said, it is a slight difference but it still makes for a better overall flavor. Enjoy!
