Item of the Week!
I love my magazines in the summer and have about a dozen subscriptions. I take a stack of magazines, a glass of wine, and sit on my patio for an hour or two just relaxing. Call me lame but this is one of my favorite things to do. I get so many ideas from magazines as well as they introduce me to great products. This brings me to my discovery of a red sauce I now use on a regular basis. I originally read about Classico Pizza Sauce in Better Homes and Gardens. It was featured as one of their new favorite products. I am always looking for a new red sauce because I still have not found “the one”. Coming from an Italian family it is hard to find a sauce that works for me. Companies tend to overwork their sauce and put way too many ingredients to make it "authentic." Traditional sauce is actually pretty plain but since it cooks for hours it has the time to develop deep and rich flavors.
When I went to the grocery store, list in hand, I was looking for ingredients to make homemade pizza. When I was in the pizza section I remembered that I read about Classico Pizza Sauce and that it was voted one of the best new products of the year. I picked up the jar and skimmed the ingredients. See, this is a habit of mine now. This is not due to the fact that I am overly healthy, and more so because I want to make sure that there are no onions. I HATE onions! Much to my surprise, this particular sauce did not have onions. SCORE! I quickly tossed the jar in my cart and I was on my way.
Not only was this sauce amazing on pizza, it is now one of my pantry staples that I stock up on. Although it is a pizza sauce, I use it for lasagna, pasta, and of course my chicky parm. It is just a true, basic, red sauce but has very rich and developed flavors. Pick up a jar the next time you are at the store and let me know what you think. You will not be disappointed! Now if they will only sell it in a bigger jar!
