Did You Really Forget....Your Child?

I can't stop thinking about this. I keep asking myself over and over again if I could ever forget one of my children. I know it happens...a lot. But I can't wrap my mind around it. I know you can lose a child at a store...but can you really forget one all together? For over 30 minutes?!?!?

There is a story that was all over the news and it actually happened right down the street from my house. A woman left her 2 month old baby in a shopping cart at the grocery store. How does this happen?? When I think about it I assume the mother was crazy or on drugs or something. But when I watch the news I see that it was just a mom, like any of us, that happened to make a HUGE mistake. Because of her story there have been tons of other stories flooding social media about mistakes other parents have made. It is scary to see some of these stories. One mother shared her own nightmare of when she turned on the bath water, put her 9 month old in the tub and left the room to wake up her other kids and forgot all about her baby. How does this happen?!? But with both tragic stories the mothers explained that the routine was off. Things were out of order and that caused the accident to happen. It's scary that wonderful mothers who love their children more than anything can have these kinds of slip ups. I appreciate these stories because I feel like we can all learn from their mistakes and it will make us all more aware. Every time we see a car accident we are reminded to drive a little more safely. Or when we hear of a child that drowned on the news we are reminded to watch our kids a little more closely. Does the women need to be punished? Does she need anything more than the guilt she will live with forever and the fear of the unknown as to what could have happened to her little 2 month old baby that day? It's hard to say. Sometimes we are given reminders to slow down and that was a tough wake up call.
